Where to start…

I decided some time ago I wanted to have a go at doing a complete first gen development.  Don’t get me wrong, I love my third gen, but I don’t have enough knowledge to do it, so am always reliant on others and their skills.  This is expensive, but not as expensive as making it not work on my own.  So, the cheaper way to do everything (cheaper basic car, engine, parts, etc), was to buy an older car, a running engine, and see where we end up…  On top of this, the aussi & kiwi updated first gens look absogoddamlutely awesome!!  So me and one of my bestest pals ever are going to spend however-long-it takes to get this car updated.  The only things we aren’t too keen on are Welding and Mapping of the car…   I think Mr Maxim will be asked to map our little beauty, but the welding is a bit of a mystery at the mo…

SOOOOOOOOO some weeks ago I tripped over a series 3 first gen without an engine or gearbox for sale.  This got delivered yesterday (thank you Bri – you rock, and I suspect you’ll be getting a number of calls and visits over the next months…), and I am so excited I am near puking… *grin*

It had a ford v6 engine and gearbox in it, which are now thankfully gone from the poor little thing, and other than that small, inconvenient and impure modification, the car is standard.

We’ve been able to find a donor T2 engine and gearbox from a 2nd gen currently being sacrificed for this project (ummmmm – 2nd gens weren’t the cutest of cars imho, so I’m fine with this…).  The current plan is to get the body sorted and sprayed, strip and rebuild the engine (some porting involved, and ‘blinging’), get the interior fabulous, funky wheels and suspension, and some cool ICE (maybe even a carputer), and something really fun, funky and essentially a cool project.

Stuff we think we need to do (will be updated as time goes by...)

Weekend 1 - collecting the car and stripping the interior ....

Weekend 2 - starting to clear the exterior ...

Weekend 3 - collecting the engine...

Weekend 4 - Messing with the body...

Weekend 5 - Front wings back on, and planning
